Social-networking sites such as Facebook and YouTube received more traffic than search engines for the first time ever in May according to net analysis firm Hitwise.
During May, social networks accounted for 11.88% of UK Internet visits and search engines accounted for 11.33%. making it the first time ever that social networking has been more popular than web search.
Despite the rise in social-networking visits, Google.co.uk andGoogle.com still dominate the market accounting for nine in every 10 web searches last month. Google UK was the most popular visited website in the May with Facebook in second place. However, with the latest news that Yahoo and Facebook have integrated in Yahoo Pulse Google’s dominance may be challenged this year.
